Privacy Policy

Group Chat Knows is operated by Office of Special Projects LLC ("we", "us", "the service"), an SMS-based application that lets users share and query place recommendations within their personal trust network. This policy describes what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information we collect

• Phone number. Required to send and receive SMS messages.
• Message content. The text and photos you send to our number, which we process to extract place recommendations.
• Contacts you add to your trust graph. Phone numbers of people you explicitly invite, used only to scope your queries to your network.
• Query history. Searches you run, used to improve results.

2. How we use your information

• To deliver and respond to SMS messages.
• To extract, verify, and store place recommendations you share.
• To retrieve recommendations from your trust graph when you query.
• To prevent abuse and enforce rate limits.

3. Third-party services

To deliver the service, we send portions of your message content to:

• Twilio — SMS delivery.
• Anthropic (Claude API) — extracting place names and parsing queries from your messages.
• OpenAI — generating semantic embeddings for search.
• Google Places API — verifying that extracted places exist.
• Supabase — database and storage hosting.

4. Data retention and deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us. We will delete your phone number, recommendations, trust edges, and query history within 30 days of your request.

5. SMS consent and opt-out

The consent checkbox on our signup page reads, in full:

"I agree to receive conversational SMS messages from Office of Special Projects LLC (Group Chat Knows) related to my use of the service. Messages I may receive include: (1) a one-time signup verification code, (2) confirmations after a place I sent in is saved, (3) brief follow-up questions about places I save (for example, 'what would you tell a friend?'), and (4) results when I query the system. I will not receive marketing, promotional, automated alerts, or third-party messages. Message frequency varies based on my activity. Message and data rates may apply. I can reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help."

The checkbox is unchecked by default; the "Send verification code" button is disabled until the user checks it.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

6. Children

Group Chat Knows is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
